Advanced SQL Server DBA – NHS Organisation
Rate: £428 per day (Outside IR35)
Contract: 3 months
Location: Central London (2 days on-site per week)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Advanced Database Administrator (DBA) to join an NHS organisation on a short-term contract. You will be responsible for building and managing SQL Server databases across multiple lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems, within an Always On SQL Farm.
Key Responsibilities
- Configure and maintain SQL Server databases, ensuring high performance, availability, and security.
- Apply data modelling techniques to support integration and performance requirements.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues in real time, providing end-to-end problem resolution.
- Automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes.
- Assist developers with complex query tuning and schema refinement.
- Provide technical mentorship and cross-training to team members.
- Recommend solutions for database structure, security, backup, and recovery.
- Install and configure new systems, propose specifications, and coordinate installation requirements.
- Maintain database performance and complete maintenance requirements.
- Create dashboards using Power BI.
- Work with multi-terabyte, high-throughput, highly available databases.
- Manage storage fabric (Fibre and iSCSI) and SQL failover for business continuity.
- Support project teams during analysis and planning stages, including Change Management.
- Write reports, instructions, and specifications.
- Design and enforce networking standards, monitor performance, and troubleshoot network issues.
Essential Skills
- Advanced SQL Server DBA experience in high-availability environments.
- Expertise in Always On Availability Groups.
- Strong knowledge of Power BI for dashboard creation.
- Experience with storage fabric technologies (Fibre/iSCSI).
- Business continuity and failover planning.
- Excellent problem-solving and performance tuning skills.
- Ability to mentor and share technical expertise.
