Assistant Financial Accountant
Location: London Based / remote working
Length of contract: 4 months (with possibility of extension)
IR35 Status: Inside IR35
A Central Government organisation is seeking a Financial Accountants Assistant to aid with transaction processing, reporting and reconciliations, to analyse financial management information for the operating business units, and to also liaise with the internal and external auditors.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with closure of month-end and year-end accounts
- Support the production of annual accounts and documentation in preparation for audit
- Assisting with the audit process and associated queries
- Deal with day-to-day accounting queries in a timely manner
- Upload data from external third party system’s into Integra on a continuous basis in a timely and accurate manner
- Providing any analysis and review to the management accountants when required
- Supporting the Financial Accountant with the preparation of monthly VAT returns including download to Excel, analysis and amendment of information within HMRC guidelines
- Reviewing final return with the Financial Accountant and submitting online via Quickbooks
- Reviewing monthly balance sheet movements and ensuring reconciliation of all balances has been completed and supporting documents are provided
- Supporting the Financial Accountant with the preparation of a monthly review of Fixed Asset registers and preparation of final report
- Reconciliation of Fixed Asset accounts to trial balance
- Posting depreciation and adjustment journals as required
- Collection of invoices on a monthly basis with supporting documentation
Key Requirements
- Part–qualified or qualified Accountant (AAT/ACCA)
- Excellent working knowledge of Excel
- Experience of preparing reports for VAT returns and general knowledge of HMRC VAT rules
- Adept with reviewing and implementing improved financial processes
- Robust experience of working with internal and external auditors
- Knowledge of computerised accounting systems and Microsoft Office applications
- Strong Excel skills in the manipulation of data downloads and managing large data sets
- Ability to use vlookups/sumifs/pivot tables
- Good communication and presentation skills with the ability to deal effectively with people at all levels
- A proven track record of working as a supportive team member
- Ability to prioritise and ensure that key deliverables are monitored, on target or appropriate action taken if not
