Building Control Officer

Venn Group are currently seeking an Interim Building Control Officer / Senior Building Control Officer to support the Building Control service within Environment & Public Protection at a Lincolnshire based council. This role will play a key part in ensuring statutory Building Control requirements are met, delivering high standards of safety and compliance across domestic and non-domestic developments.

Duration: 3–6 Months
Rate: Negotiable (Inside IR35)
Location: Lincolnshire / Hybrid

Key Responsibilities:

• Handle Building Regulation applications, ensuring compliance with legislation and standards
• Provide professional advice to applicants, builders, and internal/external partners
• Undertake site inspections in line with statutory requirements and service level agreements
• Investigate breaches of Building Regulations and take appropriate enforcement action
• Assess and determine dangerous structures, including participation in the out-of-hours rota
• Supervise demolitions to ensure compliance with the Building Act and safety standards
• Mentor and support junior staff, providing guidance and contributing to professional development
• Identify and develop marketing opportunities to promote Building Control services
• Represent the service on internal and external matters, deputising for the Senior Officer where required

Requirements:

• Extensive experience in Building Control, including assessing plans and inspecting works on site
• Strong understanding of the Building Act, Building Safety Act, and associated legislation
• Experience dealing with dangerous structures and demolitions
• Membership of CABE, RICS, or CIOB (or equivalent experience)
• For Senior Officer roles: experience in risk assessing, determining fees, and validating applications
