Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Commissioning Manager to lead the commissioning phase of a high-profile 400kV HV substation project in Central London. This role requires an expert in high-voltage transmission systems with a deep understanding of National Grid standards, safety protocols, and substation commissioning procedures. The successful candidate will hold valid Senior Authorised Person (SAP) status and have a demonstrable record of successful project delivery on similar infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the commissioning activities of the 400kV HV substation, ensuring compliance with all technical, safety, and operational standards.
- Develop, author, and maintain comprehensive commissioning procedures and documentation aligned with National Grid, NGESO, and statutory regulations.
- Coordinate with project teams, contractors, equipment suppliers, and vendors to ensure efficient and safe commissioning and system energisation.
- Schedule and manage pre-commissioning, functional testing, and system integration activities.
- Ensure HSE compliance at all stages, performing risk assessments, method statement reviews, and enforcing permit-to-work systems.
- Maintain clear communication with stakeholders, producing regular status reports, handover documentation, and compliance certifications.
- Investigate, resolve, and report technical issues, ensuring minimal delay to the commissioning schedule.
- Provide expert advice and leadership during energisation and fault resolution processes.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Senior Authorised Person (SAP) status for 400kV systems (valid and in-date).
- Extensive experience in commissioning 400kV high-voltage substations, ideally within National Grid projects.
- Proven track record of managing complex substation projects from pre-commissioning to energisation.
- In-depth understanding of NGESO Grid Code, TP141, CDM Regulations, and other UK regulatory frameworks.
- Familiarity with protection schemes, SCADA, transformers, GIS/AIS, and control systems.
- Strong organisational, planning, and stakeholder management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
