We are seeking an experienced Damp and Mould Surveyor to ensure housing stock and public buildings are safe, healthy, and compliant with housing standards.
You will be responsible for inspecting properties, diagnosing the causes of damp, mould and condensation issues, and recommending effective remedial solutions. Your expertise will help improve living conditions for residents and contribute to the Council’s commitment to providing safe, sustainable homes.
Damp and Mould Surveyor

Duration: 6 Months Initially
Rate: £45 - £48 per hour (Inside IR35)
Hybrid Working Arrangement - Midlands
Responsibilities
- Carry out detailed property inspections to identify and assess issues related to damp, mould, and condensation
- Diagnose root causes using appropriate testing methods and moisture measurement equipment
- Prepare comprehensive reports with findings, photographic evidence, and recommendations for remedial works
- Work collaboratively with Repairs & Maintenance, Housing, and Environmental Health teams to ensure timely resolution of issues
- Liaise with tenants and residents, offering advice on moisture management and property care
- Monitor contractors and ensure works are completed to specification and in line with health & safety and housing regulations
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to data analysis to identify recurring issues and inform proactive maintenance programmes
Requirements:
- Experience in property surveying or building diagnostics, ideally within housing or local government
- Strong understanding of building construction, ventilation, and moisture control
- Excellent reporting, communication, and IT skills
- Ability to produce accurate, evidence-based reports and manage a varied caseload
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
Desirable:
- HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Building Surveying, Construction, or a related discipline
- Knowledge of the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS)
- Experience with social housing stock and working with vulnerable tenants
