Permanent Engineering Services Manager role available
Location: South West
Hours: 37.5 hours a week, Mon – Fri
Salary: £53,353 to £61,8230 per annum
Main responsibilities of the role:
- Safely manage all aspects, technical and managerial, of electrical and mechanical services
- Provide guidance and advice to the in-house trade staff and procuring and manage the services of external contractors and consultants when required
- Provide advice to the capital projects team on electrical and mechanical issues as necessary
- Responsible for management of Mechanical Service Engineers, Electrical Services Engineers, Building Controls Engineer and Energy Engineers
- Ensure the Health & Safety for all staff and service users across the site at all times
- Develop and implement the strategy and policy for the mechanical and electrical services across the site
- Prepare a programme of maintenance works in accordance with criteria approved by the organisation for the allocation of funding and the condition survey
- Responsible for programme management including budget management and the preparation of work position statements
- Preparation of drawings, specifications, schedules of works/rates, invitations to tender, scrutiny of returned tenders, awards of contract, authorisation of contract payments and direct orders etc
- Undertake inspection of works in progress, quality control and control management
- Ensure that suitable and sufficient RAMS are in place for all work carried out by the department whether by in house or contract staff
- Manage and implement cost effective maintenance solutions via the directly employed tradespeople or external contracts, resulting in best value solutions
- Provision of strategic advice and professional support in respect of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Services
- Development of Energy and Carbon reduction initiatives in partnership with the University’s Environmental Officer in pursuit of achieving significant reductions in both areas in the coming years
- Undertake authorised persons duties for designated systems as required
Essential requirements:
- To be considered for this role you must hold a minimum of a HND in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering and ideally be a Chartered Electrical or Mechanical Engineer
- Knowledge of the control of asbestos in buildings, legionella prevention, heating and ventialtion systems and associated legislation
- The job holder will be required to take part with the “on call” duty management rota and be available for emergency call outs as required
