Environmental Health Officer – Fire Safety/PRS
Location: West Midlands
Start: July 2023
Rate: £45 - £50ph Umbrella Inside IR35
Duration: 3 months initially (Very likely to be extended)

Our team is currently seeking an experienced and dedicated Environmental Health Officer to join our team, focusing on fire safety in high rise buildings. In this role, you will play a vital role in ensuring compliance with fire safety regulations, conducting inspections, and promoting the highest standards of safety within the local community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Survey and inspect dwellings either as individual properties or in groups of properties to establish conditions and breaches of statutory provisions
- Prepare schedules of work in relation to bringing dwellings up to the required standard and recommend relevant action to be taken in line with the Council’s statutory responsibilities
- Undertake the full range of enforcement, advising and grant aided activities of an Environmental Health Officer relating to Housing
- The identification and scoring of hazards under the Housing health and Safety Rating system (HHSRS)
- Carry out visits and inspections following service of notices and orders and give advice and information to owners and residents in respect of the Council’s statutory obligations
- Prepare informal and formal notices and orders and monitor action taken in response to them
- Monitor and enforce fire safety regulations, standards, and policies, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, codes of practice, and guidelines
- Conduct regular inspections of commercial, residential, and public premises to assess fire safety measures, identify potential hazards, and ensure adherence to fire safety regulations
- Conduct comprehensive fire risk assessments in various premises, including evaluating fire hazards, identifying vulnerable areas, and recommending appropriate control measures
- Investigate fire-related incidents, accidents, or near misses, determine root causes, and develop recommendations to prevent future occurrences.
Requirements:
- Local Authority experience as an Environmental Health Officer
- Diploma or Degree in Environmental Health recognised by the CIEH (EHORB is preferable)
- Knowledge of fire safety legislation, regulations, and codes of practice, including the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
- Sound knowledge of emergency response procedures and incident investigation techniques
- Understanding of HHRSRS (Housing health and safety rating system)
- Public Sector Housing experience
- Stay up-to-date with relevant fire safety legislation, regulations, and building codes. Ensure that high rise buildings are in compliance with all applicable fire safety requirements.
