Venn Group are currently recruiting for Open Spaces Manager on behalf of a large Local Authority organisation based in Kent.
Lead a team to deliver the Open Spaces service and achieve the highest quality and most cost-effective services possible. Improve the satisfaction of residents, visitors, businesses and members through effective management and maintenance of the council’s open spaces in line with the corporate strategy. Lead a motivated multi-functional team to successfully extend the quality and range of open space facilities available to residents and visitors whilst ensuring a safe and productive working environment at all times.
Position: Open Spaces Manager
Hours: 37 hours per week
Location: Kent
Duration: 3 months
Day Rate: £350 - £450 Umbrella
Responsibilities:
- Lead the frontline Open Spaces service, comprising grounds maintenance, tree maintenance, minor works, playgrounds, and allotments, in association with other council services, volunteers and external partners to deliver the highest possible quality outcomes and range of facilities for residents, businesses and visitors
- Participate on project teams, consultative and other groups, maintaining close working contact with other senior officers to deliver results
- Liaise with portfolio holder cabinet members and ward councillors on service-related matters
- Manage assigned budgets and assets for the business unit to maximise overall value for money and the effective use of resources
- Support the planning and implementation of proposals to generate additional income from the introduction of new services
- Ensure that the Open Spaces service meets the governance requirements of the council including effective budget management, contract standing orders, financial procedure rules and effective risk management
- Lead the procurement of contractors and consultants and the engagement of services from external suppliers to support the operation of the service, ensuring effective specifications of work and robust procurement arrangements
Requirements:
- Able to manage continuous review of services to achieve and prove value for money of the outcomes
- Can actively own and contribute towards corporate goals which are wider than their own service and lead to the development of the council
- Excellent communication skill with the ability to command respect, trust and confidence and explain complex issues clearly
- Able to motivate and maintain staff morale, especially during periods of uncertainty and change
