Outreach Worker

A growing homeless charity is looking to recruit several Outreach Workers to join their team in Bedfordshire. This is a full time temporary opportunity which will involve outreach to rough sleepers during the night.
Length: 4 months with the possibility for extension
Hours: 10:00PM – 7:00AM (with some flexibility for start/end times)
Location: Bedfordshire
Main responsibilities of the role:

Providing outreach support for rough sleepers throughout the area and engaging them within the service to source emergency housing

Responding to referrals from the local authority out of hours team in order to identify potential rough sleepers and verify their validity as a rough sleeper

Facilitate rapid access to emergency accommodation, ensuring that people will not have to sleep rough during the winter period

Building rapport and trust with people in order to encourage engagement within the service and other support staff

Travelling to various locations to follow up leads, carry out risk assessments and assess the individual’s needs which could include substance misuse or mental health needs

Complete administrative duties and paperwork in order to build an initial case for each individual to supply a detailed handover to the day workers

Liaise with internal and external teams to find emergency overnight beds for newly engaged service users
Essential requirements:

An understanding of homelessness and experience working with people with complex needs or substance misuse

An enhanced DBS with the adult’s list checked within 3 years or the willingness to obtain one

Must be confident, approachable and engaging as this role is involves speaking with and assessing people on the street
