Permanent, Full-time
Shape the future of one of the Midlands’ most ambitious districts
North West Leicestershire is a district that’s growing fast and thinking big.
Home to the UK’s only inland Freeport, East Midlands Airport, Donington Park, and the National Forest, we’re planning for major regeneration in Coalville and a new strategic settlement near the airport.
We’re looking for a skilled, motivated Planning Policy and Land Charges Team Manager to lead our talented team at a pivotal moment. With our Local Plan review heading for submission in 2026 and adoption in 2027, you’ll play a central role in shaping how our communities evolve — balancing growth, sustainability, and great place-making.
What you’ll be doing
- Lead and inspire the Planning Policy and Land Charges team.
- Drive the Local Plan through submission, examination, and adoption.
- Oversee Section 106 monitoring — ensuring contributions are secured and delivered.
- Support and guide the high-performing Land Charges service.
- Advise and collaborate with Members, senior officers, and regional partners.
- Represent the council at committees, hearings, and examinations.
What we’re looking for
You’ll combine technical expertise with political awareness — comfortable leading projects that are both complex and high-profile.
✅ Experience preparing and delivering Local Plans (ideally through examination).
✅ Degree in Town and Country Planning (or equivalent) and RTPI membership (or eligibility).
✅ Strong communication, leadership, and project management skills.
✅ A calm, pragmatic approach and the ability to motivate others.
Whether you’re already managing a team or ready to step up, this is an opportunity to take real ownership of a major Local Plan and make a lasting impact.
Why join us
- A respected, supportive planning team with strong corporate backing.
- Hybrid working — typically one day a week in the office.
- Salary of £52,413 – £56,687 + £4,140 car allowance.
- Professional fees paid, free parking, and excellent work–life balance.
- The chance to help shape growth in a distinctive, forward-looking district.
