Interim Principal Public Health Specialist
Location: South East (hybrid)
Length: 3 months initially with possibility of extension
IR35 Status: Inside
We are currently supporting one of our local authority clients to recruit an interim Principal Public Health Specialist to support the Director of Public Health, with the help of the Public Health Advanced Practitioner, in the delivery of Public Health team responsibilities for Health Protection and Emergency Planning.
Key responsibilities of the Principal Public Health Specialist will include:
- Planning, managing and leading the operational and strategic involvement of the Public Health service block in the areas of health protection and health care commissioning including the NHS Health Check Programme and sexual health services in primary care
- Ensuring there are robust health protection, including infection prevention and control, strategies and protocols across a range of settings to protect the health of the population and reduce inequalities (also includes screening and vaccination programmes)
- Establishing local place-based leadership with their priorities, approaches and geographies
- Developing and maintaining good relationship with primary care (GP/ Community Pharmacist) and Primary Care Networks, GP Federation/ LPC which is crucial for the management of the primary care services
- Exploring challenges by gaining new insight into how to scope, shape and brief on alternative models to support commissioning
- Extending the NHS prevention offer beyond care to integrate with the Council’s people-focused service blocks such as Community Solutions to My Place and Be First who require a more enhanced public health remit to achieve further health gain through environment and economic development interventions
Experience and skills required from Public Health Specialist (gained through master’s level qualifications or equivalent qualifications and experience):
- Three or more years at a senior level Public Health or related profession
- Experience of working in a health protection role; evidence of CPD in health protection
- Significant experience of working with multiple sets of health-related data and information systems in health and care related organisations
- Demonstrate in depth understanding of national NHS and Social Care policy
- Demonstrate a highly specialist and in-depth knowledge of epidemiology and information analysis related to health and social care
