Dorset Council is seeking an experienced and proactive Building Surveyor to support the effective management of our diverse property portfolio. This hands-on role is key to ensuring the safety, compliance, and high performance of our assets, while contributing to the delivery of quality public services across the county.
Location: Dorset Council
Set-up: Hybrid – 2-days per week on-site
Rate: £400-£500/day via umbrella inside IR35
Duration: Initial 6 months, potential extension
Hours: Full-time position (37-hours)
Responsibilities include:
- Ensure asset safety, statutory compliance, and effective maintenance across the property portfolio
- Deliver both planned and reactive maintenance programmes to maintain high operational standards
- Manage and deliver capital repair projects (typically £100k+), from procurement through to completion
- Oversee budgets, contracts, and procurement processes to ensure value for money
- Collaborate closely with internal teams, contractors, and external partners to achieve shared goals
Requirements:
- Degree-level qualification (or equivalent) with proven experience in building surveying or property management
- Demonstrated ability to deliver repair and maintenance programmes and manage contractors effectively
- Strong understanding of budget control, contract management, and stakeholder engagement
- Proficiency with digital property management systems and sound legal/contractual knowledge
- Strategic thinker with excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities
