Interim Internal Communications Manager
Based in London, hybrid
Length: 3 months initially
Inside IR35
We are seeking an experienced internal communications professional to take the lead on our client’s internal communications function. This role oversees communications channels reaching over 6,000 staff, including the intranet, e-newsletters, and location-based updates
Key Responsibilities include:
- Lead the strategic planning and delivery of internal communications activity across the Council
- Work collaboratively with services, Human Resources, and the wider communications team to support and promote the Council’s 2030 vision
- Play a key role as part of the communications management team, contributing ideas, driving cultural change, and providing leadership that motivates and develops staff
- Manage and mentor an Internal Communications Officer
Experience and knowledge required:
- Extensive experience in planning and delivering internal communications strategies and activities
- Skilled at using insight and data to shape communications plans and measure impact
- Proven experience advising and briefing senior leaders and/or elected members on internal communications and staff engagement
- Strong knowledge of digital and social media content creation, with the ability to tailor messaging across different platforms
- Understanding of local government, its services, and its responsibilities to staff and residents
- Excellent writing skills with a clear, engaging style, and the ability to adapt messaging for different audiences
- Confident verbal communicator with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships at all levels of an organisation
- Experience of leadership, line management, and supporting the development of team members
- Experience managing communications in a crisis, with an understanding of reputational risks and the importance of clear messaging
