Assistant Project Manager - Highways and Transport
Rate: £300 p/d Umbrella (inside IR35)
Start: ASAP
Contract length: 6 months initially
Working arrangement: Hybrid (Mondays & Fridays office-based – New Shire Hall, Alconbury)
Role Purpose
To support the planning, coordination, and delivery of highway and transport capital projects, working alongside Project Managers to ensure schemes are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of capital highway and transport projects across the project lifecycle
- Assist Project Managers with programme planning, risk management, and reporting
- Help prepare technical reports, briefings, and updates for stakeholders and councillors
- Support procurement activities and contract management in line with council frameworks
- Monitor project progress, costs, and risks, escalating issues where required
- Liaise with internal teams, contractors, consultants, and external stakeholders
- Support site visits and inspections to ensure works are delivered safely and effectively
- Ensure compliance with health & safety, CDM regulations, and council procedures
Essential Criteria
- HND or degree in Project Management, or a relevant discipline, or working towards professional qualification or relevant experience
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working in Highways & Transport in a similar role
- Experience delivering capital projects and understanding the highways project lifecycle
- Experience supporting budgets, programmes, and risk management
- Full driving licence and access to a vehicle (required for site visits)
